Carnivàle opening sequence
God dammit, I wish they had given this show it’s full run.
BEHOLD THE VALLEY OF SLAUGHTER
Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that this place shall no more be called Topheth, nor The Valley of the Son of Hinnom, but The Valley of Slaughter.
…now, the other film I watched, Take Shelter was in a different vein of twisted, albeit as stellar as La Piel Que Habito.
Michael Shannon is a delight as an actor. I’m glad he’s getting more exposure and beefier roles, I’ve dug him for a while and he doesn’t disappoint in this flick. Jessica Chastain is also quickly growing to be one of my favorite actresses.
I’m not going to win any originality points in comparing this to a much-better Donnie Darko, but I couldn’t shake that comparison out of my head. However, this does not delve into science fiction much if at all, and mostly it’s a character-driven drama with darker elements to it. Don’t read up on it, don’t ruin it for yourself, just watch and go down into the psyche of Shannon’s character along with his family.
